Students Brilliant Work

<For Boy in the Burning House by Tim Wynne-Jones, students created a plot PowerPoint. The project had to cover each element of plot such as exposition, rising action, conflict, climax, falling action, and resolution. Here are some great examples of work:

For December Stillness by Mary Downing Hahn, the students ending project was to create a book report PowerPoint. They had to do a slide on each literary element like setting, characterization, and plot. It was challenging and here is a collaboration PowerPoint that includes a slide for two from each student:

Empathy Reading – This assignment asks the students to use their imagination to step into someone else’s shoes that they can barely relate to. Our current novel, Montmorency, is about a thief who takes on two personas. Scarper, is the low life sewer rat who does the thieving and Montmorency is the private slightly shy gentleman who uses Scarper’s booty to support his high life as a gentleman. During one scene, Montmorency is at the trial of his old cell mate, Freakshow Frank, which brings out some rarely seen emotion in Montmorency. For the worksheet we completed click here: Empathy Reading Worksheet.

Character “MySpace” is where the students can pick a favorite character from a novel and create what looks like a “MySpace” home page. Click here for the Microsoft Word template:  Character myspace – A place for book friends.
