This novel written by Mary Downing Hahn has been one of my favorites because the main character, Kelly, who is in the beginning sarcastic and arrogant comes to see herself as well as her family and friends as the individuals that they are. Kelly at first feels judged by her father and friends for being an artistic, creative and caring teenager, but she also judges others based on her standards. Eventually she is able to give her father and her friends what she has been craving, acceptance. The novel also puts you in touch with the issues of homelessness, post tramatic stress disorder and the effects of the Vietnam War. The characters and plot line are well planned as well as interesting theme discussions came up as we read this novel.

It was a great book, and am going to say, it touches over many controversial topics, and it really opens the eyes of the reader to the problems of the world, and is a book that you should keep in the Lit. Group for years to come. Keep on Keepin’ on.

In the book December Stillness is an okay novel. It has some exiting parts and some forgetable parts. This novel gives you a lot of inspiration to help the homeless. This girl tries to help a homeless person but he keeps pushing her away. Every person in that little town thinks that Mr. Weems (the homeless) is weird and a waste of space. He is a Vietnam veteran that lost everything after the war. I do recomend this book to the people that like to help the homeless. I think you will find that you are just like Kelly.

I really liked this book, it wasnt very exciting but still the story was beautiful. It shows how one person can make a difference and some people have a hard time seeing that. I totally recomend it for reading!

KElly loves her friends alot- but they arent good influences, so what are you supposed to do when you care for someone more than anything but they arent a good influence at all and you mayt be scarred for life because they get you into their habits
